Although its history dates back at least 10,000 years ago, getting a tattoo isn’t as simple as getting your ears pierced if you are a woman, or having your beard shaved if you are a man. It would seem that there is a lingering perception that the people who have tattoos on their bodies are gangsters or if not, just people with a dark side to them (blame it on Hollywood movies). So, if you are a regular person who just loves the artistry of tattoos, you really have to ask yourself if you should get one.
Should I Get a Tattoo?
Because you will find people out there who will not hire you because of your tattoo. It’s sad. But if you really want to have your skin inked, you have two options here. One is henna and the other is carefully choosing the location of your tattoo.
Henna tattoos are great and they are cheaper than tattoos, mainly because they wash off after a week or two. However, they are great for testing if you really want to get a tattoo or not. Remember that once the artist is done, a tattoo is permanent and only a painful laser procedure can remove it.
Do Your Research Before Getting a Permanent Tattoo
If you are determined about getting a tattoo but are uncomfortable about what it might do to your employment prospects, choose the location of the tattoo somewhere the rest of the world cannot see, like your back. We know it’s not as fun as having a tattoo on your arm. But hey, you can’t always get what you want especially if you don’t own your own company.
Tattoos cost thousands of dollars and so it is very important that you choose the artist really well. If you’re still unsure, be sure to read our tattoo pros and cons post from yesterday. But lets say that you have decided to move forward, here are two things you need to look out for in a tattoo artist: skills and cleanliness. Obviously, you will want to find someone who can turn your skin into a truly wonderful piece of art. Also, you will want to make sure that you don’t contract any diseases from un-sanitized equipment.
That said, before you go to any tattoo studio, make sure to do research on the best tattoo artists in your area. It’s easy enough to do that. Just type “tattoo artist” on the search bar of Google plus the name of your area. Or you could also go to Yelp. While you can’t expect all reviews to be positive, you do need to make sure that most customers are happy customers.
Once you’ve settled on the artist, it’s time to choose the design. There are many Pinterest boards that will give you an idea or two, and the studio you go to would have an album of tattoos done that you can choose from. You can have images or words in a different language, like Chinese. If you want to have Chinese characters tattooed, do research on what it means.
Far too often we’ve seen people tattoo Chinese words that have funny meanings, which for sure they never intended.
